Advising: the Small Business Development Center

The Arizona Small Business Development Center network, part of the SBA-funded SBDC program, has a centre at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff (centre page; the network's locations page lists the others). The network offers free one-on-one advising; business plans, financial projections and getting ready to borrow are good topics to bring.

If you are not sure whether your business is ready for financing at all, this is the first call to make. A clear plan and realistic projections help with any funding request, including one made through a broker.

Economic development: ECoNA and Choose Flagstaff

ECoNA, the Economic Collaborative of Northern Arizona, is the regional economic development organization, working across Coconino County with partner municipalities. The City of Flagstaff also runs its own economic development site, Choose Flagstaff; both are linked from the city's business page.

Economic development offices are the place to ask about regional programs, incentives and support for expanding or relocating a business. They can also point you to whoever runs a given program.

Business networks: the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce is the local chamber, a membership organization for area businesses. A chamber can be a way to meet local bankers, accountants and other owners who have financed similar projects.

Federal: the SBA Arizona District Office

The SBA Arizona District Office lists an office serving Maricopa, La Paz, Mohave, Coconino, Pinal, Yavapai and Yuma counties. The SBA does not usually lend directly to businesses; it backs loans made by participating lenders and funds counseling through the SBDC network and other partners.

Silvershore Funding Group does not arrange SBA loans. If an SBA-backed loan fits your situation, the district office and the SBDC are the right starting points. Our term loans page explains how a conventional term loan compares.

State records: entity filings and TPT

Two state offices hold the records partners check most often. The Arizona Corporation Commission files LLCs and corporations through its Arizona Business Center. The Arizona Department of Revenue handles transaction privilege tax licensing. Our Flagstaff license and TPT checklist explains how those records fit with the city's business license.

Local government

The City of Flagstaff and Coconino County run their own websites, with licensing, permitting and contacts for their departments. Business data for the city and county is on our Flagstaff page.

Grants

Silvershore Funding Group does not offer or arrange grants. If you are looking for grant programs, ask the SBDC or the economic development offices above which, if any, fit your business, and be wary of anyone who charges a fee to find you a grant.

Where a broker fits

Public resources help you plan, register and prepare. When you are ready to compare private funding, the six options Silvershore helps with are compared by repayment. More guides are in the guide library.
